Cruise & discovery on the Turkish coast
on one of the most beautiful and luxury yacht
of the world |
|
The luxury ocean-going yacht, Savarona, was
designed by William Francis Gibbs, the leading
American naval architect of his day, and built
in 1931 for Mrs. Emily Roebling Cadwalader.
For seven years, the Savarona plied the waters
of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Then
in 1938 she was purchased by the Turkish government
and presented to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the
founder of the Turkish Republic. Atatürk took
great pleasure in his new acquisition. By his
own account, he waited for its arrival in Istanbul
with the expectancy of a "restless child".
Atatürk held cabinet meetings and entertained
world leaders aboard his yacht. Thus, the Savarona
has played its part in history.
After Atatürk's death, the Savarona passed
to the Turkish Naval Authorities. Then, in
1989, the yacht was purchased by Mr. Kahraman
Sadikoglu. By this stage, the Savarona was
in very poor condition and Mr. Sadikoglu embarked
on an ambitious campaign of restoration, employing
no less than 425 skilled workers.
The interior was designed by Donald Starkey,
and no expense was spared. To take one example,
the ship contains 260 tons of polished marble,
65 in the hamam alone. In memory of Atatürk,
his private suite has been restored as a museum
containing many of his personal belongings.
The Savarona remains the largest private, historic
yacht in the world. She presents her distinguished
guests with spacious decks from which they
can fully appreciate Türkiye's extraordinary
natural beauty and historic sites. The Savarona
is 136 meters long (446 feet) and has 3,600
square meters (38,735 square feet) of open
space. The sun deck alone measures 550 square
meters (5,920 square feet). In addition, there
is a 300 square meter (3,230 square foot) covered
deck with an open dining area. Since the Savarona
carries a maximum of 34 passengers, it isn't
hard to find all the privacy and seclusion
you might need.
The Savarona is particularly well equipped
for tough ocean-going conditions. If need be,
the ship can sail non-stop from Türkiye to
Miami. Her maximum speed is 18 knots and her
cruising speed is 14 knots. Thanks to her highly
qualified crew and advanced technical specifications,
passengers can relax in the knowledge that
a safe voyage lies ahead of them.
The Savarona isn't just a ship, but rather
a floating gallery of art and antiques. As
soon as you board the ship, you realize that
its restoration and embellishment were a labor
of love on the part of Mr. Sadikoglu and his
wife Julide. Everywhere you look you see antique
furniture, ornate gilded mirrors, authentic
kilims (some as much as 100 years old), bronze
statues, and an outstanding collection of paintings
and prints by contemporary Turkish artists.
In the Bosphorus Lounge for example, there
are two remarkably handsome large abstract
paintings by Bilge Alkor. The décor, in general,
flawlessly combines the classical with the
modern. The Savarona is also the only ship
on which you can sit at Louis Quinze table
and read a book from Ataturk's private library.
When you board the Savarona, expect the exceptional.
Since her staff and crew easily outnumber her
guests, the Savarona can offer a level of service
that surpasses that of even the finest 5 star
hotels. From meticulously trained waiters to
gourmet chefs, our service crew will do everything
they can to create an ambiance of intimacy
and luxurious ease.
In our lavishly appointed dining rooms, you
can sample authentic Turkish dishes and a diverse
selection of international cuisines, accompanied
by a wide variety of choice beverages, including
vintage wines, champagnes, and cognacs.
The Savarona's magnificent public spaces include
the Bosphorus Lounge, the Sultan's Coffee House,
and the Swan Dining Room. All are exquisitely
furnished, so as to induce a sense of serenity
and sensuality.
The ship's facilities include a fully equipped
movie theater, computer games, a library, board
games, and for the more actively inclined,
there is a fully equipped gym and fitness center.
Guests can also avail themselves of our extensive
collection of water-sports equipment. Eight
launches are at your service at all times for
any shore excursions you may wish to make.
The authentic marble fountains and basins of
our hamam are over 200 years old and were brought
from Anatolia, to compliment the beautiful workmanship
carried out on site by twelve master craftsmen.
The Savarona Hamam is one of the most elegant
of its size ever built. Its 80 square meters
(860 square feet) include steam room, sauna,
and changing rooms.
